Exercise Classes Studies indicate that exercise plays an important role in the prevention or rate of progression of many diseases, including Parkinson's. For people who have been diagnosed, exercise is also a way to help cope with symptoms by enhancing flexibility, coordination, balance, and promoting wellness in general. Parkinson's Resources of Oregon sponsors a number of low-cost movement classes based on the John Argue method, designed to combat Parkinson's symptoms.
Classes are offered on a quarterly basis and do require pre-registration.

While some people think of Parkinson's as a disease that primarily impairs motor functions like walking, it can also cause changes in the volume and clarity of speech. Similar to exercising the rest of the muscles in your body, exercising good speech skills is a great way to strengthen the muscles involved in speaking and communicating.
PRO sponsors communication classes and groups to help people learn how to keep their voices and expressions loud and strong! Current locations include Corvallis, Salem and Portland, OR.

The Tremble Clefs of Portland has been specifically developed for people with Parkinson's disease who are vocally challenged. Each session, designed with music therapy techniques, will include vocal exercises infused with musical elements that focus on posture, breathing techniques, breath support, projection, and enunciation. Participants will also learn and sing a variety of choral pieces.
Ability to read music or understand music theory is not required. This program is offered in partnership with Earthtones Music Therapy Services and Marylhurst University.
