Supporting people with Parkinson's, their families, and caregivers
Information and resources for communities in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Family Caregiver Month
honoring all the ways family caregivers support our community
November is a time to recognize the immense positive impact family caregivers have in the lives of their family members each day throughout the year! It is also a time to acknowledge the challenges caregivers often face in caring for themselves too – both physically and mentally.
If you are a caregiver, know that PRO is here to support you! There are several ways we strive to do this including:
- Multiple general care partner support groups and specialized care partner groups
- Caregiver Respite Grants
- Regional information about additional caregiver services and community resources.

What is Parkinson's Disease?
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive disease that impacts the brain and nervous system. It occurs when nerve cells in the brain don’t produce enough dopamine, a chemical that’s vital to our ability to move. Many people experience slowed movement and tremors along with muscle stiffness and changes in balance. There may also be non-motor changes including anxiety, depression or sleep disruptions.
It is important for people who may have Parkinson’s to seek the opinion of a neurologist who can confirm a diagnosis and together with you and your family, create a plan for care. Working with your doctor and following recommended therapies is key to successfully treating and managing your symptoms.
PRO is your local partner connecting you to a network of community support essential to helping you live your best life with Parkinson’s.
