Providing Parkinson's Care

Resources for Professionals

Better Outcomes Together

You are an essential partner in our goal of achieving the best quality of care for individuals with Parkinson’s (PwP). Our education for clients focuses on patient advocacy efforts and creating access to the latest knowledge, tools and resources. When people have knowledge about their condition, they have better health outcomes and stay independent for a longer period of time. Working together we can optimize care, create wider access to services, and increase awareness of the complexity of patient needs.

Right now, we are focusing on increased awareness of the mental health needs in our client community, and have initiatives to improve access to care in under-served rural areas. Let us know if you would like to learn more or contribute to these efforts.

Long Term Care Training

Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon offers a training curriculum designed specifically for professional and para-professional caregivers working in the long term care field. Parkinson’s is a complex brain disorder with many symptoms that present challenges in a care stetting, often creating strains on the resources of professional staff in adult foster homes, assisted living, and nursing care centers. Attendees will learn the reasons for variation between people with PD, the wide scope of medication regimens and the best practices developed to target the causes of mobility, speech and cognitive symptoms – ultimately making for more qualified and confident caregivers.

The course curriculum includes five modules:

  • Disease overview: causes and symptoms
  • Medication management
  • Enhancing communication and swallowing
  • Neuropsychiatric symptoms
  • Personal care and daily living

Training may occur onsite at your location or participants can register individually at one of our community trainings. To host a training for your team or to learn more, contact Libby Kennard, Mid-Valley Program Coordinator. 541.345.2988

Professional Networking

Building community and facilitating peer support are key components to the success of services at Parkinson’s Resources. We believe that extending these same opportunities to our community partners is an important element to ensuring clients have access to skilled and knowledgeable specialists throughout Oregon and SW Washington.

With underwriting support from corporate partners, PRO periodically hosts events for professionals from fields across the helping spectrum to gather, network and share resources and knowledge. Sign up for our updates and look for an invitation to our next professional activity.

Speaker's Bureau

PRO maintains a listing of qualified speakers from across the region who have expressed an interest in volunteering as a speaker or content provider. From support groups* in local communities, webinars, and even region-wide educational workshops, there are many opportunities. Please contact us to indicate your interest and learn more.

* PRO policies stipulate that speakers and presenters for support groups work through PRO rather than initiating direct contact with any of the volunteer facilitators.
