Volunteers Make All The Difference
Volunteers are a treasured resource at PRO. Whether you have a lot of time, or occasional availability, volunteering is a gift to your peers and community. All PRO volunteers are carefully screened and matched with jobs to maximize interest, skills, and availability. Orientation and training is provided.
Listed here are just some of the ways you might choose to get involved and make a difference. If you have other ideas of how you might contribute, call us to discuss your best fit. Please note, some roles require special skills, training or a supplemental application.
Volunteers are needed throughout Oregon and SW Washington and some roles can be fulfilled without being onsite.

Current Volunteer Needs
Some volunteers have specific skill sets and very definitive ideas on how they want to engage, while others are open to the needs of the moment. We welcome all and will work with you to make sure that whatever role you commit to is both meaningful to you and advances our work in the Parkinson’s community. We have highlighted a couple of our current volunteer needs below, but this is by no means a comprehensive menu of opportunities!
Sole Support Planning Committees
Are you an enthusiastic marketer? Great at logistics? Skilled at generating support and enthusiasm? Bonus if you have connections with local media! We need you to join one of the Parkinson’s Awareness Walk (Sole Support) planning committees to help us with our most successful walk season ever this year! You will work closely with our staff and leadership to lay the groundwork for a fun and high visibility event in five (or more) communities. Committee meetings are typically scheduled on the phone at mutually agreed upon times.
Volunteers needed to help coordinate: Logistics. New Team Recruitment. Volunteers. Guest Experience.
Events Committee
Engage with other PRO volunteers to brainstorm and execute new fundraising (and friendraising!) events for PRO. Help plan and staff 3rd party events on behalf of PRO. From benefit concerts to carwashes, spread awareness through a variety of new community and fundraising events.
Blue Bag Program
In partnership with Oregon BottleDrop, PRO supporters can collect and gather redeemable bottles and cans to benefit our local programs and services. Help PRO expand this “blue bag” recycling program by taking designated collections to the recycling redemption center on a scheduled basis and picking up blue bags on behalf of PRO. Participate in outreach by contacting potential new businesses to enlist in the blue bag program. This is also a great project for a school or classroom to meet community service requirements.
PeDal Support
Start a local cycling group and help build a new program/event by dusting off your bike and improving your gait, freezing, and stiff joints as you cycle for Parkinson’s disease. This client initiated; adaptive program is not only a beneficial form of exercise but a safe, social connection for small cycling groups. The PeDal Support committee meets virtually and has begun exploring activity for this calendar year.
Leadership Roles
As part of our strategic plan, PRO has created new opportunities for members of the community to get involved with PRO with an eye towards a future leadership role or possible board membership. At this time, three board committees are open for membership from qualified and interested community members looking to make an impact. Interested individuals should reach out to Melissa Greer, Executive Director to learn more and schedule an interview.
Finance Committee: The finance committee is led by the board treasurer with a purpose providing oversight of the financial health and fiscal stewardship of PRO resources. The committee is currently recruiting non-board members, especially those with insurance or risk assessment experience.
Investment Committee: The investment committee recommends investment guidelines and supervises investment activity related to PRO’s investments and endowment funds.
Program Committee: The program committee works with members of our distributed program team to identify unmet needs, surface education interests, and otherwise support the development and delivery of relevant and timely supports for members of the PD community.
