Legal and Financial Planning for Parkinson’s

With a new diagnosis of Parkinson’s, there can be so many questions. Often, the initial focus of one’s attention is naturally on the medical management of the disease. But there are other parts of life that are impacted and need to be considered sooner rather than later.

Regardless of age, this talk is for those who are at the beginning of their PD journey, or who are now starting to think about what legal steps they should be aware of and should be implementing to protect assets and the financial security of the care partner and other family.

Presented by Garvin Reiter, J.D., CELA, this talk will help you understand key aspects of this planning like:

  • How a chronic condition like Parkinson’s may affect your financial planning.
  • How do I protect my assets.
  • The legal steps you should be taking right now.
  • The types of Power of Attorney, how they work, and which do you need.
  • How and when to set up trusts
  • When should guardianship or conservatorship be used.
  • How does Medicaid work and what does it cover.
