Please join Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon (PRO) on Wednesday, November 8th, for an afternoon discussion focused on lifestyle strategies to live your best life – both as a person living with Parkinson’s and as a care partner. Between visits to the doctor, the daily choices you make can help you better manage your symptoms.

We will discuss the evidence behind recommendations about exercise, nutrition, provide strategies to manage healthcare information, the importance of socialization and mental health and discuss available resources. Denise Boyd is a physical therapist with Southwest Physical Therapy. She will be co-presenting.

Whether you are new to PD or you have been living with it for many years, there will be something of interest to everyone -along with opportunities to ask questions.

HOPE in Parkinson’s: Roseburg, OR

Dr. Hart, MDS, talks about new treatment options for Parkinson’s disease.

There are more treatment options for Parkinson’s disease now than there have ever been. This is an exciting time with the development of new biomarkers for Parkinson’s disease through spinal fluid, as well as new diagnostics through skin biopsy. Dr. Hart will be discussing current treatments, ongoing research studies, and how to maintain hope in the face of Parkinson’s Disease.

Presented by: Dr. Kristina Hart is a board-certified neurologist with fellowship training and special interest in movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease. She also has additional training in Botox injections and management of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for patients with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia.

Understanding Off Episodes in PD: Medford

Plan to attend this in-person presentation by Dr. Pinky Agarwal, MD. Neurology Specialist with over 24 years of experience in the medical field. Currently at Evergreen Health Medical Center in Kirkland Washington.

Dr. Agarwal will explore the impact of OFF episodes and dyskinesia on daily lives. As well as explain how Gocovri treats these episodes. There will be time for questions at the end.

Nia Jones, Program Coordinator for Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon will also be in attendance.

Basics and Beyond

Whether you were recently diagnosed, going through transitions as your symptoms change, or are a family member of someone with Parkinson’s disease, this lecture will help you piece together an understanding of this complex neurological condition.

90,000 people in the US live with this disease and every 6 minutes someone receives this diagnosis. Worldwide disability and death due to Parkinson’s is rising faster than any other neurological disorder. This new data determined that the prevalence is nearly twice what was previously reported.

Rock Steady Boxing at Higs Gym, Central Point

RSB training is an effective training method that’s beneficial for people in all stages of PD, including those who have just been diagnosed and those who have lived with PD debilitation for decades. RSB helps Parkinson’s patients to move easier and safely while improving their posture, gait, flexibility, and resistance to injury. It opens the window to healing and happiness.

We work with clients at any level – some boxers may require a cornerman (spouse, friend, caretaker).

Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) is a non-contact fitness program designed specifically for people with Parkinson’s.

According to RSB, “boxers” condition for optimal agility, speed, muscular endurance, accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork and overall strength.

Cycling for Parkinson’s, Ashland

This 45-minute indoor cycling class combines fitness and travel. Designed for people with Parkinson’s. It is ia fun, high intensity class which applies the “forced exercise” principle.

Must be able to sit on a spin bike without support. We do not stand during any portion of the class.  Travel the world with us while listening to fun upbeat music. A large screen tv is used to provide a virtual tour of many countries.

Seated/Standing Strength Exercise, Ashland

Balance and overall conditioning, this seated workout encompasses far more than movement. Chair based exercises ill develop your cardio fitness, muscular strength and flexibility.

Come learn the proper biomechanics of free weight exercises. This class is for anyone who would like to enhance coordination, balance and over all conditioning.

Think Feel Dance – Dancing with Parkinson’s, Ashland

Informed by the renowned Dance for PD program originating in New York, this class aims to inspire, guide, and organize body-mind connection to create a joyful practice of mobility, balance, co-ordination, and imaginative playfulness. Using stories, imagery, music, and community to engage our mind, heart, and body, we will explore an empowering and inclusive experience of dance.

Classes are designed for both seated and standing participation. Modifications are encouraged. No past dancing experience is needed. Partners are welcome.
