Navigating Housing Transitions: Beaverton & Hybrid

Life with Parkinson’s can involve many transitions. One of the biggest is knowing when it is time to make a change in the setting where you will live. Another is deciding when one should engage an outside private caregiver organization to provide assistance.

Our guest speakers are experts in answering these two questions.

Julie will share what the main alternative living settings are, what are the key indicators to look for in deciding to move to a higher level of care, what questions should you ask and what should you look for when visiting prospective communities, and what are the most important factors to consider when choosing a new home.,

Heidi will share valuable information about the different levels of home caregiver providers that are available, and the types of services they can and cannot provide. She will cover what you may anticipate for costs, what the process is to arrange for services, and what types of questions you should ask to make sure you are hiring the most appropriate provider for your needs,

Grief and Loss with Chronic Disease, HYBRID

Ambiguous loss and disenfranchised grief may be unfamiliar terms, but they are not necessarily unfamiliar concepts for those with Parkinson’s, MSA, PSP, care partners, and friends. This one-hour fifteen minute presentation by Anne Richardson aims to help people understand these concepts more deeply and provide tools to cope with loss and grief.

Grief is an emotional response to loss. People may grieve changes in ability, changes in relationships as disease progresses, or life prior to a diagnosis. Grief is a natural emotion, but it can be overwhelming at times.

Ambiguous loss is an unclear loss that may continue without resolution or closure. Sometimes a person can’t quite put a finger on what they have lost, but the feeling of loss and sadness is present. Learning how to process grief and loss or live alongside grief and loss can be a powerful tool for people living with and affected by PD.

This program is offered in a hybrid format. You can attend in person at Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon, Beaverton Office or online via Zoom.
