Duopa, Is It Time to Try Something New? – Beaverton/Hybrid

As Parkinson’s disease progresses, issues with timing and managing medications can become a challenge as more pills are added and fluctuations in on/off increase. DUOPA (carbidopa and levodopa) enteral suspension is a prescription medicine used for treatment of advanced Parkinson’s disease. DUOPA contains two medicines: carbidopa and levodopa.

In this presentation, Michael Vitti, Account Executive with Abbvie, will talk about PD with a focus on the changes that may occur in the gut as the disease progresses. He will describe what Duopa therapy is, how it works, who is a good candidate, information on the safety of this treatment, and what kind of resources Abbvie offers to make this a successful decision for you. Michael will also address the question of insurance coverage and discuss how Duopa therapy can be incorporated it into your life.

Navigating Housing Transitions: Beaverton & Hybrid

Life with Parkinson’s can involve many transitions. One of the biggest is knowing when it is time to make a change in the setting where you will live. Another is deciding when one should engage an outside private caregiver organization to provide assistance.

Our guest speakers are experts in answering these two questions.

Julie will share what the main alternative living settings are, what are the key indicators to look for in deciding to move to a higher level of care, what questions should you ask and what should you look for when visiting prospective communities, and what are the most important factors to consider when choosing a new home.,

Heidi will share valuable information about the different levels of home caregiver providers that are available, and the types of services they can and cannot provide. She will cover what you may anticipate for costs, what the process is to arrange for services, and what types of questions you should ask to make sure you are hiring the most appropriate provider for your needs,

Grief and Loss with Chronic Disease, HYBRID

Ambiguous loss and disenfranchised grief may be unfamiliar terms, but they are not necessarily unfamiliar concepts for those with Parkinson’s, MSA, PSP, care partners, and friends. This one-hour fifteen minute presentation by Anne Richardson aims to help people understand these concepts more deeply and provide tools to cope with loss and grief.

Grief is an emotional response to loss. People may grieve changes in ability, changes in relationships as disease progresses, or life prior to a diagnosis. Grief is a natural emotion, but it can be overwhelming at times.

Ambiguous loss is an unclear loss that may continue without resolution or closure. Sometimes a person can’t quite put a finger on what they have lost, but the feeling of loss and sadness is present. Learning how to process grief and loss or live alongside grief and loss can be a powerful tool for people living with and affected by PD.

This program is offered in a hybrid format. You can attend in person at Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon, Beaverton Office or online via Zoom.

Advanced Stage Family Caregiver Workshop

Couple standing close looking at camera

The advanced stages of Parkinson’s disease may last anywhere from several months to several years. Intensive, around-the-clock assistance is usually required. In the advanced stages of PD families are called upon to make difficult decisions about their loved one’s care. Even with the understanding that Parkinson’s disease is progressive, it is hard to be prepared. This education workshop will prepare family members and caregivers to approach the advanced stages of the disease with more confidence. Recognizing every family situation is unique, the program will educate caregivers about the issues and decisions impacting quality of life.

This is a two part workshop. This workshop has limited space, so we kindly ask if you are registering that you plan to attend both days of the workshop.
